I just spent four incredible days in the beautiful Domaine Saint Hilaire for my sister’s wedding. We were blessed with perfect weather and a beautiful venue, but most of all, it was special to witness a monumental effort from both families. The DIY nature of the wedding meant that we all had to pitch in, and after some blood, sweat, and tears, the two families had converged, combined, and become one. Congratulations, Henny and Mike <3
1. Lidl Core
While in the South of France, I took the opportunity to explore the French supermarkets and enjoyed spotting interesting treats (vodka-flavoured beer, anyone?) down the aisles of Intermarché. However, it was at the local Lidl where I made my greatest discovery: Lidl-branded clothing. After discarding their wonderfully hideous logo-embossed jorts, trainers and sliders, I landed on a particularly fetching Lidl sun visor and added it to my basket. Suffice it to say, my sister loved her wedding present.
I also picked up a linen/cotton-blend shirt (not Lidl-branded) for €7 and wore it to the pre-wedding drinks party, feeling quite smug amongst the Gant and Ralph Lauren at 10 times the price.
2. Tips on Crisis Management
I’m a big fan of Scott Galloway’s various podcasts and newsletters produced by his company, “Prof G Media”. I don’t agree with a lot of what he says, which is partly why I enjoy him, but he’s very amusing and always has a take on everything, usually wrapped up in a pithy slogan. One of my favourites is his credo for crisis management:
Acknowledge the issue
State the issue in plain and simple language. There’s nothing worse than someone swerving the issue.
Accept responsibility
The top girl or guy needs to accept responsibility and be the primary source of (regular) communication.
Overreact/overcorrect
This is the hardest one because you don’t want to throw the kitchen sink at a solution until you have all the information, but you need to appear to be acting fast.
3. Poundland sells for…
Now and again, the world throws up a bit of beautiful poetic justice…
Today, distressed retailer Poundland was sold to a US private equity house for £1.
Have a great week, all 🙏
