1. Jeff Bezos is a cheapskate
$47 million.
That’s the low-end estimated cost of the Bezos-Sánchez wedding in Venice, which took place over the weekend.
What a cheapskate! That’s just 0.02% of his net worth (236 billion USD at the time of writing).
The median wedding cost in the US is $30,000, against a median net worth of $192,700 — that’s 16%!
Like I said, big Jeffy boy is a cheapskate.

2. Revolut for the People
Last week, I learned that, in addition to building a finance super app, Revolut has also created an HR management platform called Revolut People, ostensibly built for their internal use, but now available for other businesses as well.

You might wonder why a well-funded digital bank, well-known for aggressive growth tactics and user acquisition, would bother building specialist software for a totally different audience. Perhaps to sprinkle some B2B SAAS-flavoured recurring revenue into their interchange fee salad?
More likely, they built what they needed: a platform tailored to Revolut’s recruitment and performance needs, free from legacy tech, bloatware and clumsy AI add-ons.
A fellow Slater, Huw, and founder of the amazing business, Oliva, puts it best:
This isn’t an iteration.
It’s a platform shift.
From systems of record to systems of intelligence.
From HR ops tools to performance enablers.
From data entry to real-time action.

I came across their People platform while reading their Performance Playbook, which is well worth a look if you’re a leader or founder. Despite some controversy over the years, you can’t deny that their approach is highly effective.
Have a great week, all 🙏
